TYBASS FREESTYLES AN ENTIRE ALBUM
This past week TyBass released the sequel to his 2019 Album TyBizzle, TyBizzle 2. Almost twice as long as TyBizzle, with 12 tracks, and no vocal features, this self recorded Album deserves to be at the top of your queue! TyBass came in hot with the intro “ENDZ FR” (produced by: Joe Aste), where he speaks about how he managed to “make it out” of his Canarsie, Brooklyn neighborhood. TyBass credits his ability to maneuver around the obstacles of New York and find opportunity for greater peace to his music. Ty's passion for music demanded that he have the ability to discern from the negative and positive and pursue the latter.
The album's single “MARKET” (produced by Joe Aste and Lord Unknown) is a lyrical narrative of a young man that spits game to a beautiful “lil lady from the market”. The noteworthy Music Video that accompanies the single was brought to life by Harlem filmmaker Camp.alt. Camp directed a beautiful visual composition that complements Ty’s storytelling, only making the song more interesting and relatable for the listener.
One of the standout songs on the album was also the shortest, #6 “LDN TWN”. Produced by Jamaican producer GVIJIN. TyBass’s direct yet nonchalant delivery intertwined with a drill instrumental made for a new and unique listening experience. When asked what genre he would categorize his music, Ty replied “I have no idea”, which is a fair answer. TyBizzle 2 is a project with sonic range, and contextual intentionality. There is no need to force a categorization of the music because it translates. Anyone who goes out of their way to place his music in a genre would probably miss the mark. TyBass remains true to his New York hip-hop roots and Jamaican dancehall origins, but has built upon it by bringing the listeners to an uncharted musical territory that he is still constructing for us to explore.
As you reach the end of the album “U N I” tells the story of a humble artist that is hungry for the fruits of his labor. The overall tone of the album is serious. TyBass is letting it be known how seriously he takes his craft, and the music is reflective of that. The album's outro “SEH SHE LIKE” is a perfectly concise conclusion to this symphony of new sounds that will leave you wanting to hit replay. TyBass was transparent about the nature of his recording style in letting us know that he punched in 97% of this project, “All freestyle!” he exclaimed. This is impressive because although the lyrics were put together on the spot over the course of multiple recording sessions, the message and overall sensation of the album was compact and representative of an artist with tunnel vision, a clear identity, and focus.
